Mulkern Road, Islington.

Three news houses and four family sized flats are created on a very tight site off Mulkern Road on the Elthorne Estate. The proposals replace an existing garage and car park on the site.

A new four storey block completes the blank gable wall to an existing block on Beechcroft Way. Through a careful study of overlooking distances and light access three courtyard houses are placed at the end of a strip of green space and provide a formal frontage to Mulkern Road.

The buildings are made from brick to complement the existing architecture of the estate but are punctuated with fibre cement shingles to lighten the mass of the building and add texture. The architecture of the scheme relates to another proposal designed by Brady Mallalieu Architects for an adjacent site on Holland Walk.
