Elders housing and respite centre project

Ballydehob West Cork Ireland

This project combines a new respite day centre for people with autism and a small elders housing project to be developed by a local housing association. The site is on the edge of Ballydehob village in West Cork on land that rises from a landscape dip with localised flooding issues to a rocky outcrop with wide views across Ballydehob Bay. The houses explore how the sociability of the scheme can be encouraged and supported by shared conservatory spaces and attractive external areas. The scheme is planned around a broad-based sustainability agenda and looks at green initiatives achievable with a social housing budget.
